Prieka...to Sippin’ Fine Wine in Riga: A Trip to Latvia- 3

Image
The first Latvian word I heard was ‘ Prieka ’, which means cheers in English; the other word is ‘ Paldies ’, which translates to ‘ thank you’ . I learnt these aforementioned words at the restaurant, 2 More Beers ,  which I first visited alongside members of my family and the Uprising Platform team when we arrived in Riga. The Latvian attendant whose name is Bobi (not real name) made sure we had a great time at the restaurant. First, he gave us a card which explains some of the basic words a tourist or immigrant such as myself should understand as soon as he/she arrive in the city. For instance, how do you say, ‘I Love You’ in the Latvian language? It is ‘ Es Tevi Milu ’ - hey, you can snatch a Latvian’s heart now. Sipping fine wine Back to our attendant, Bobi, he was fantastic with making us made sure we are comfortable and feel at home. While 2 More Beers had some mouthwatering dishes, it wouldn’t be wise of me to try and pronounce some of the dishes I had, as it ...

A Trip to Latvia: Anima In The Animus- 2 (PHOTO STORY)

On the second day of the visit to Riga, Latvia , the Uprising Platform was at the nature (otherwise called the Museum of Natural History Museum. The museum featured every animal mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible from Noah's Ark , including reptiles, birds, and prehistoric creatures . The anima in the animus of these creatures was meticulously represented with profound attention to detail. The ambience of the museum encapsulates the geographical location or zones of these species impeccably. For instance, the room that had the sea animals, such as the penguins, fish, and dolphins, was made to be cold, as it gave the tourists that chilly feeling, as you would if they sat by the ocean in Europe. Meanwhile, the animals from the African continent were preserved in a humid room to describe the temperature in that part of the world. Anima in the Animus As a Nigerian, I was quite impressed as I was only seeing some animals for the first time. In primary and secondary school...

Niggers In Riga: A Trip To Latvia

Image
Paldies , that is thank you in the Latvian language. Therefore, ‘ Paldies’ for opening this article to read, glad to have you here. I am sure you will learn a thing or two from my recent trip to Riga , the capital city of Latvia . Beautiful people with an impeccable fashion sense who are simply going on about their day and moving on from the turmoil and struggles from the I-don’t-want-to-remember years . Emerging from the world war conundrum, especially from the now-defunct Soviet Union oppression and rulership for almost a century. Latvia is a nation encapsulated in history; every part of the nation embodies the cracks from the nefarious period. They have since advanced, though, becoming one of the most technologically driven nations in the world, and the adversity the country has experienced has made it one of the most fascinating places to visit. Welcome to Riga, my nigger. A Little Bit of History About Latvia… The original Latvian flag design (Photo taken at the Muse...
