Once Upon A Time In London: The Visit to United Kingdom (PHOTO STORY)

When I was much younger, my brother, Ahmed Olukotun, and I would look up at the sky from our compound in Mushin and wave at those who were thousands of miles away, drifting into the firmament in an airplane.

We didn’t know if they heard us, and we have no idea if they bothered to wave back at us. We were simply kids who wondered what really went on on the other side of the earth, outside of Nigeria and Africa.

Unaware photo taken at the airport

I’ve always aspired to travel to London, Germany, and probably Bakersfield, in the United States of America. I want to pluck the cloud, scoop the snow, and play on the London Bridge. There was something about the outside that was exciting and worth figuring out; these things I urge as I toss and turn in my sleep as a child.

I was a child, my heart was innocent, albeit it is wanted what it wanted, and as destiny would have it, I was at Birmingham (BMX) airport for Christmas in 2024. One of the most memorable moments in the entirety of my life. Not just in adulthood, but a life coming to its full cycle in absoluteness.

En route to London.

I visited the United Kingdom last Christmas. While I was there, I took several random photos ranging from time out with family, friends, and acquaintances. I had a great time in the United Kingdom (UK), visiting numerous cities such as Birmingham, Derby, Leicester, and of course, London.

Out shopping...

I didn’t particularly document how I spent the holiday; however, I still have mental images of how the activities went. Courtesy of my iPhone, I recalled the dates of each trip and in what moments I took those photos- indeed, special moments are special because of special people, I look back at this moment and smile at how fickle time is, however, I’m glad to be here as I know it’s only a privilege to tour the world with loved ones.

In the words of British recording artiste, Dido, ‘nothing I have is truly mine.’ This is true in my case because I’m not even supposed to be tripping the world, but, as God will have it, he keeps the business running smoothly, and I simply serve my objective by capturing images of these moments.

Paintballing Game!

This is a random photo story that I hope can inspire someone and also entertain them. Stare at the photos for what they are worth: heartwarming, beautiful, and ephemeral.

Yup, ephemeral, nothing lasts forever, because Christmas was a lifetime ago; however, the moments are etched in my memory, so let’s make do with what we have, which is time.
