Life As Fjizzle: …No Bed of Roses

I have failed a lot in my life, as a matter of fact, as I speak with you from this exam hall, I write with a broken heart because no matter how much I succeed, the failures from all I don’t want to remember still taunt me.

There are days when I think life should be a bit kinder and more thoughtful towards me, but that'll be being an ungrateful charlatan. I sometimes wish my life were a bit simpler, but to hell with my excuses’s life isn’t a bed of roses, and it’ll deal with me accordingly.

Life isn’t a bed of roses, nor is it a garden of thorns; it’s the unraveling of daily struggles, wins, and conflict between choosing what’s wrong or right. Under the rain or in the sun, life goes on, transitioning from one phase to another. It’s nonstop, in my native Yoruba language, an adage goes, ‘Ojo iku ni Ojo isimi’, which loosely translates to ‘until our dying day, there’s no rest’.

Life is sometimes peachy, other days, it is hazy, and I feel really dizzy. But I am here, very much in this game called life, and I play to win- I will participate in the events and pursue my own happiness, excellence, and progress, I’ll do my due diligence and pray to succeed. There are days I come out on top, other times, I finish last and break my own heart inadvertently.

Life is no bed of roses, sometimes, I wish all things were beautiful as my heart desires and work just as I it to, albeit, it doesn’t go that way. It’s my responsibility to tend towards progress and create a life worth living. For all the mistakes I’ve made over the years, I hope I can keep chasing excellence and purposefulness and understand that my life isn’t the worst thing since the Ikeja bomb incident in 2002.

Life won’t be perfect, the day of absoluteness won’t come; however, I’ll create a meaning for whatever it’s worth. I pray to my God in heaven, for everywhere I failed, I pray my sons and daughters progress and succeed with ease.

A book on failure

Lastly, to you reading this, understand that life isn’t perfect; however, it is still worth living. God is with me and you, let’s go prepare for that exam, skill development program, etc., we’ve got this. God will not put us to shame, this I know.

Life is an Exam

In conclusion, life isn’t a bed of roses, nor is it a garden of thorns; it’s the encompassing of various moments- the good, bad, and ugly. See you on the sunny side, mate.
