People travel for various reasons- some for academic reasons, others for family (dependents) sake, others are here to work (expatriates), albeit everyone is here to find greener pastures and a better life for themselves. Overall, the underlying theme is to escape from the uncertainties and the socio-political issues that have continued to malign the emotional, psychological, mental, and social well-being of the citizens of Nigeria. Nigerians have no idea what to expect tomorrow as they awake to new controversial policies daily.

In the morning of each new day, the lack of structure in the most populous black nation impedes the growth of the citizens of Nigeria; additionally, it would further blur their future to a bleak.

At 25, you do not know what to make of yourself. Your Bachelor’s degree means little to nothing as you’re unable to feed yourself with the meagre amount you earn at the end of the month. At 30, you can’t save enough to buy a brand-new vehicle for yourself, nor can you strategise on the methodologies to commence a new family. The struggle propounds and has little to no meaning as the days go further- the night grows dimmer as the days transition swiftly, you are closer to your grave than you imagined, however, you have to make it, hence, you travel abroad.

Japa: Welcome Abroad

Soaring through the air

You are overseas now; the journey here is different. After travelling from the sub-Saharan part of Africa to the Global north, you rub your sweaty palms together as you glide through the earth. You urge your heart to be steady as you are trying to understand the emptiness on the inside, as you pursue purpose and prominence, you feel that same old empty feeling in your heart. You are seeking means on how to approach the new environment you find yourself in, like meeting someone new for the first time, you don’t know what to expect, you want everything to align with how you have envisioned it in your mind.

After you japa, you begin the realise that the immigrations rule only continues to get stricter; you need to learn a new language, cultural values, and societal norms to integrate into a new system at 35. Amid the turmoil, you maintain the faith that was brought abroad, you continue to mettle towards your objective, which is to attain a better life.

You lie awake at night thinking to yourself, you ponder if you should return to the bleak nation of Nigeria, where they have never experienced a 24/7 power supply, and you are simply one medical ailment away from relapsing into penury. When you think about the onerous state of your country, you pick yourself up and wage war against all odds abroad and do something with your time, energy, and skillset. Since you have
Japa, the only way forward is to keep pressing for growth and development.

So, What Do You Do Now?

What's the game plan?

You are here now, open your sensory organs to the street, and join a Nigerian community. Get the latest information and continue to pursue excellence, sharpen your skills and competence. Keep grinding and get better, fight for what is yours.

Do you leave the beauty of the European epicureanism and go back home to a nation that has no objective aside from tribalism and ethnic cleansing?

The ball is in your court, big sexy, I wish you well.
